To ensure the sustainability of our food system we need standards that take into account a broader range of social and environmental concerns that start at the ranch level. That's why we choose to be audited and certified by Prairie Wise, a comprehensive third-party certification for land and livestock management practices.
By working directly with farmers and ranchers, Prairie Wise ensures a holistic approach to farming and ranching systems. Prairie Wise is designed to deliver the best possible social and environmental outcomes, verifying market claims so consumers can trust that their food is grown and raised using sustainable ethically sound farming and ranching practices.
To be officially Prairie Wise Certified, farmers and ranchers must:
Practice good grazing management and land stewardship
Use low-stress animal handling techniques and ensure the humane treatment of animals
Not use hormone or antibiotic supplements
Reduce pesticide use and toxicity
Protect water resources
Protect and enhance soil resources
Provide and enhance wildlife habitat
Continually improve practices
To maintain certification, farmers and ranchers must complete annual updates to report any changes to their operation and the progress they're making to meet their continual improvement goals.
